Tropical Hangout

Miramar, Florida

A modest, cute, clean, and functional lakeside backyard in design in Florida focusing on entertaining. Adaptable shade, delineated seating spaces, extended lawn space, monochromatic materials, and hardy plant selections for the garden all come together to satisfy the goals of optimized outdoor living while being low maintenance.

Whimsical Courtyard

Greenville, South Carolina

This client currently has a small pool in her backyard that she does not use and wants to fill it in. She gave me her ideas and asked me to take the concepts and run with them. Her main requests: mostly pink and white flowers, a water feature, shade trees, and access to the pavilion behind the space.  I proposed a stepping stone pathway directly in front of the most commonly used doors to provide a straight shot to the seating area beyond. I then positioned pink crape myrtles within an intersecting, playful, pea gravel pathway running from the west side to a water feature and bench at the east side. These pathways shaped the corten steel line beds which I designed a whimsical arrangement of perennials, annuals, herbs, grasses, and shrubs. I chose plants with different bloom seasons, contrasting leaf colors, and varied textures to provide an interesting and diverse arrangement. There are also planters at the corners to define the space and provide some scale along with the trees.
